Forget chicken nuggets, fruit and standing in the school cafeteria lunch line.

A group of students from Shivela Middle School in Murrieta last week enjoyed a chauffeured limousine ride to Stadium Pizza in Temecula for an all-you-can-eat pizza lunch party, courtesy of the businesses and their school.

The 22 sixth-, seventh- and eighth-graders were the top magazine subscription sellers for Shivela’s main annual fundraiser, each selling about 15 or more magazine subscriptions. The students won a lunch party and limo ride on Wednesday and the very top sellers, who sold more than 20 subscriptions each, also were expected to receive free or discounted tickets to Knott’s Berry Farm.

This was the second year in a row that seventh-grader Jenna Barnhart got to participate. She rode in a limo last year to a lunch party for being a top subscription seller. This year, Jenna said she sold 21 magazine subscriptions.

“I think last year I sold more. Everyone I went to said they bought them from me last year,” Jenna said.

Students said some of the buyers gave subscriptions to other people as holiday gifts. Most of the students asked relatives and friends.

“Basically, I went all over the country with them because my family lives in Chicago,” said seventh-grader Kayma Livermore.

Sarah Bennett, a sixth-grader, sold 17 subscriptions. She said she was excited for her first ride in a limo, but added that selling enough magazines was hard. “At first, people didn’t want to buy them, then they thought about it.”

Sunset Limousine and Transportation of Temecula donated the large limo bus for the event and the students posed for a group picture in front of the huge vehicle before piling into the plush bus. Driver Kyle Caso was the consummate handsome chauffeur, wearing a formal black suit, tie and dark sunglasses.

Stadium Pizza also gave the school a discount for the food, said Erin Moran, Shivela’s interim ASB adviser.

Moran praised the local businesses for helping the school with its fundraiser by offering incentives, saying she knows economic times are tough. She said use of the limo bus alone would have cost $400 to $500 if the school had to pay.

“It’s so nice they are still able to do this. We’re always asking for things,” said Moran, adding that the sales of magazine subscriptions raise about $15,000 for athletics, academics, arts and clubs at Shivela.

Along with the limo ride and pizza, the students shared a huge cake that Moran brought along.
